When conservative forces grow stronger, persistence and courage are required. At a time when more and more companies, are choosing to end their work with diversity, equality, and inclusion, Axfood remains committed to being Sweden’s most inclusive food company by 2030. We strongly believe that diversity and inclusion are not only the right thing to aim for, but also a strategic advantage that drives innovation and business benefits.

When international corporations falter, it feels extra good to be part of a value-driven group with owners who are clear about where they stand. Caroline Berg and Axel Johnson repeatedly emphasize the importance of continuing this work. In a debate article in Dagens Industri, Caroline writes: ‘We cannot afford to fail’ and highlights how diversity and inclusion are crucial for building a strong and sustainable society.

At Axfood, we are convinced that our employees’ diverse knowledge, skills, and perspectives create new opportunities and lead to better decisions. We strive to reflect the diversity among our customers and offer all employees fair opportunities. Diversity and inclusion are not trends that one can choose to follow or not – they are crucial pieces for success.
At Axfood we will continue to do this regardless of how the winds blow:
- Hold on to our values that guide us in our daily work and ensure an inclusive culture where we value differences and are stronger together.
- Inclusive recruitment: We continue to ensure that our recruitment processes are inclusive and fair. We value competence and potential over visible and invisible differences in decisions about recruitment and internal mobility.
- Training and development: Inclusion permeates our training, from who gets development opportunities to the content.
- Measurement and follow-up: To ensure that we make progress in our work with diversity and inclusion, we regularly measure our results and follow up on them. This includes breaking down diversity data to highlight potential and identify areas for improvement.
- Community engagement: We collaborate with organizations such as Generation Sverige, Jobbsprånget, and Samhall to promote diversity and inclusion.
By continuing our work with diversity and inclusion, I hope that we inspire others to make a difference for society – while also becoming better at meeting our customers and attracting the best employees. Together, we can make a difference and contribute to a more inclusive and fair world.
