Axfood's own brand Garant is switching to packaging organic minced meat in so-called flowpack, a packaging made of a protective plastic film that is formed around the product. The packaging change means that plastic use is reduced by 68 percent.
Flowpack means a more sustainable packaging and reduces the climate footprint.
– By using less plastic for the packaging, we expect to save 16 tons of plastic per year, says Tove Almgren, packaging developer at Dagab.
Several sustainability advantages
The new packaging solution includes Garant's organic minces: mixed mince (500 grams), beef mince 12 percent (500 grams), and chuck mince (500 grams).
The plastic savings represent a significant step towards reducing Axfood's plastic use by at least 25 percent by 2025. Additionally, the packaging is easier to recycle and takes up less space in recycling at customers' homes.
– This is a natural part of our sustainability journey. With flowpack, our customers get a convenient product with the same high quality as before - but in a more environmentally friendly packaging, says Tove Almgren.
